Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) an initiative of Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA), in collaboration with Vigyan Prasar, under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), had organised a competition for popularizing science among school students of standard VI to XI.
Ankita Vakde, a student of grade 10 of our school, participated in the 2021 edition of this competition last academic year. There were 3 rounds. She made it through the online MCQ exams in the school and state levels. She secured the second rank in Karnataka and qualified for the national level which was to be held in the Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IIT BHU), Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on the 28th and 29th of May, 2022.
The 2-day national camp was beyond-the-books and practical application oriented. It consisted of many rounds, including an advanced experimental round where students performed experiments of a higher level, and calculated and stated their inference from it. There was an interview round, a leadership round as well as a creative writing round based on topics ranging from ancient Indian calendars to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Artificial Intelligence in India.
Her accommodation being in the hostel of the college, she got to experience campus life, tasted hostel food and interacted and stayed with students from across the country.
Both zonal and national winners were given prizes. Ankita secured the first rank in the national division along with a cash prize of Rs 25,000/- and an internship to one of the top scientific organisations in the country.
All-in-all, a journey to remember.
