‘Continuity gives us roots; change gives us branches, letting us stretch and grow to reach new heights.’
After nearly a year of lockdown, the nation is gradually lifting restrictions. The much-anticipated offline 75th Independence Day Programme and Investiture Ceremony at the New Horizon Public School were celebrated, with rules and guidelines for students, staff and parents ensuring COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.
The Programme began with the unfurling of the National flag by our Principal, Ms Anupama Sethi, and singing of the National Anthem. Ms Sonia, emcee of the day, warmly welcomed the guests – Mr Anthony, beloved coach of NHPS, Ms Savita Puri, Ms Jayanti Ramakrishnan, and the gathering.
The Investiture Ceremony for the Academic year, 2021-22, began with an introduction to the newly-elected Captains, Vice-Captains and House Captains. The Council members marched proudly to the stage and received their badges and sashes from the Principal, Chief Guest and respective Housemistresses. The School song and House songs evoked fervour in all. The Council members then administered the oath led by the School Captain, Arjun V. The capable students entrusted with the task of sincerely discharging their duties pledged to strive for excellence while upholding the values of NHPS. Teachers of the Pre-primary division enthralled the audience with a graceful dance.
The inspiring speech of our Principal, Ms Anupama Sethi, applauded the efforts of our nation, a rising global power, and successful containment of the magnitude of the pandemic. We were reminded never to forget the contribution and sacrifice of our great freedom fighters and real heroes, the health workers and front-line workers, to whom our nation would forever be indebted. Congratulating the newly-elected office-bearers, the Principal envisaged the zealous leaders would accomplish more through selfless service. The School Captain, Chinmayi S, hoped that present India would live up to its glorious name, as envisioned by our ancestors, and promised to fulfil all responsibilities diligently. After a beautiful rendition of our National Song, Vande Mataram, by the teachers, the memorable occasion concluded with the Vote of thanks proposed by Ms Sonia.
