Introducing the Mental Health Ambassadors Program (MHAP)

- A Student-Led Mental Wellbeing Initiative for Grades 6 to 9
Led by the School Counsellor
Dear Students, Parents, and Faculty,
I am delighted to announce the launch of our Mental Health Ambassadors Program (MHAP) — a pioneering initiative aimed at promoting emotional wellness, empathy, and peer support across Grades 6 to 9.
As the need for mental health awareness grows stronger in today’s world, it is essential that we begin nurturing emotional intelligence, kindness, and resilience in our young minds. The MHAP is designed to do just that — by equipping selected students in each class with the tools to become Mental Health Ambassadors (MHAs).
These ambassadors will act as a bridge between their peers and the school’s mental health support system — not as counsellors, but as kind listeners, well-being champions, and advocates for a compassionate school culture.
Why This Program Matters
In a time where students face increasing academic and social pressures, it is crucial they have safe spaces and trusted peers who can guide them toward the right support. The MHAs will:
- Normalize conversations around emotional health
- Encourage help-seeking behaviours
- Lead awareness initiatives
- Promote a climate of inclusion, empathy, and respect
Training & Supervision
Our MHAs will undergo a series of interactive and empowering training sessions that cover essential topics such as:
- Understanding mental health
- Empathy and active listening
- Referral skills
- Conflict resolution and self-care tools
Additionally, they will meet monthly for reflective check-ins and guidance from the school counsellor to ensure their role is supported and sustainable.
Looking Ahead
This initiative is not just a program — it’s a movement toward breaking stigma, building emotionally strong communities, and creating a safe and inclusive school environment.
We will track progress through student engagement, increased help-seeking, and peer feedback — and every MHA will be recognized for their dedication through certificates, badges, and opportunities to lead school-wide well-being events.
I am confident that with our students’ enthusiasm and leadership, supported by our collaborative efforts as a school community, the MHAP will become a beacon of positive change.
Let’s build a culture where it’s okay to talk, okay to feel, and okay to ask for help.
